BurghSong: A concert series held in the heart of Pittsburgh pairing national and local songwriters in a listening room context.
BurghSong is proud to announce its fourth season of songwriter concerts. Burghsong celebrates the rich tradition and contemporary vitality of Pittsburgh songwriters by pairing local luminaries with nationally touring writers in a listening room context. The concert series idea evolved from a successful BurghSong mini-festival featuring exclusively local artists that songwriters Ben Shannon and Christopher Mark Jones organized in September of 2014 at James Simon’s sculpture studio in Uptown. Joining forces in 2015 with songwriter Alexander Stanton, owner of Sunburst School of Music in Squirrel Hill, added a creative organizational thinker and a 50-seat space to the equation.
The Fall 2018 artists are Ed Snodderly (Johnson City, TN) and Mark Williams (Pittsburgh) on Saturday, September 15; Rj Cowdery (Columbus, OH) and Mark Dignam (Pittsburgh) on Saturday, October 20; Escaping Pavement (Detroit, MI) and The Squirrel Hillbillies (Pittsburgh) on Saturday, November 17.
Spring 2019 artists will be announced in October.
As is the BurghSong tradition, each concert will feature a 50-minute set by the local artist, a short break, then a similar set by the touring artist. Doors open at 7:00, with music beginning at 7:30. Sunburst School of Music is located on the second floor at 5843 Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill. Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://burghsong.com, where music from all series artists and additional information can also be found. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $10 for students.
